Shise - Belmont's daughter, offers to give Bladetooth a place to rest, after Bladetooth avenges her deceased hunter brother, Daniel. Sees his daughter, Cola, as an individual to enrich his position in the wastleland, marrying her to the leader of the settlement named Rusty Maiden. King Ginsky - The patriarch of the Ginsky household and tyrant of Shelter, King Ginsky is at odds with both Gratonos and the Coldblood Gang. She's also a potential love interest to Bladetooth that also triggers the credit sequence of Metal Max 3. Cola Ginsky - A family member of the Ginsky household, Cola has desires to be free against the wishes of her father, King Ginsky, and the individual-of-obsession to Gratonos. Bladetooth - The amnesiac protagonist, starts off revived in a town called Crying Mama, he's driven to recover his lost memories, and his relation to Gratonos' Coldblood gang drives the plot of Metal Max 3. Interact to a NPC/Object when not in combat (default). Interact to a NPC/Object when not in combat. Moves characters in the towns, dungeons, and overworld. The iGoggles key item replaces Metal Max Returns's BS-Con, and Metal Saga's Satcom in function as well. New minigames include Doggy Tanks plus Blackjack and Slot Machines. Wrestler, toughest on-foot party member that is specialized on unarmed combat, (comparable to the Solider on their weapons proficiency.). 
Artist, crafts specialized shells for vehicles, and provides limited upgrades on vehicle parts.Nurse, allows for maintaining the health of the party on-foot, and the only class to revive fallen party members.

Mechanic, allows for repair and maintenance of the party's vehicles. Hunter, skilled in operating vehicles in combat. It is also the first in the series to introduce limited customization of adding party members though Nukka from his Nukka's Bar through the classes of:. A new modding system is also added, despite being irreversible, this allows modifying the chassis of vehicles from Metal Max 3, to include fixed vehicle weapon systems, making it unable to be swapped (only modified out in later vehicle modding stages.). The Soiyawalker is a mobile palanquin, and is the only vehicle (aside from the tanks) to acquire a Double Engine upgrade from Elurus, and can have the most Custom vehicle weapon slot in-game, making it one of the best Tanks in-game for its versatility. The Bio-Tanks function similarly to the party members, only in terms of making use of the "level up" mechanic that increases their Engine capacity, C-Unit stats, and unlocks new Custom/Fixed weapon slots up to the maximum level of level 70.
There are exotic vehicles, similar in function to the tanks known as the Bio-Tank and the Soiyawalker. Unlike the car, tanks, and the exotic vehicles in-game, motorbikes provide little to no cover from attacks- depleting both the HP of the driver, and SP of their vehicle. Chopper, Motorcross, and the Sci-Fi are the only motorbikes that allow use of both vehicle weapons and party member weapons in battle. A new class of vehicles, the motorbikes, are introduced to be faster than the only car in-game, and the tanks present in it. This game comes with improved and new features to add onto slight gameplay mechanic modifications from entries like Metal Max 2, Metal Max Returns, and Metal Saga. In addition to the previous entries in the Metal Max Series, Metal Max 3 uses improved graphics to 18-Bit RGB, allowing for increased visual detail compared to Metal Max Returns 15-Bit RGB. Metal Max 3 is one of the RPGs to incorporate vehicles in their side view battle system. Bladetooth tries to reclaim his memories, encountering the Coldblood Gang Leader (Gratonos)'s love interest, Cola, in a bid to be free from Gratonos's influence and power over the wasteland. Bladetooth, a superhuman hunter of the Coldblood Gang's bosses, lost his memory after battling a hunter above the Wara Waterfall.
